About Krasnodon
Krasnodon (formerly (until 1938) Sorokino)is a coal-mining city in Luhansk oblast (province), eastern Ukraine. It lies on the Great (Bilsha) Kam'yanka River. Krasnodon was incorporated in 1938. It is important for the mining of bituminous coal. A local museum commemorates the defense of the city during World War II by local youths. Pop. (1994 est.) 54,000.
