About Cherepovets
Cherepovets is a city in Vologda Oblast, Russia. Cherepovets is situated at the southern terminus of the Volga-Baltic Waterway, which links the city to Saint Petersburg.
Integrated iron-and-steel works at Cherepovets use coal from Vorkuta to the northeast and iron ore from the Kola Peninsula. Shipbuilding and chemical manufacturing are also important.
Cherepovets was founded in the 14th century at the site of a monastery. The population is about 323,600.
