About Biysk
Biysk is a city in Southwestern Siberia, in Russia. Located in the Altay Territory of eastern Siberia, Biysk lies along the Biya River near its junction with the Katun' River.
It was founded by the order of Peter the Great, the Russian Emperor in the early 1700s as a military fortress. During Soviet times the city was an important center for arms development and production.
The city has a teaching institute and several technical schools to train labor for the city's industries. A museum of regional history and a theater are also located in Biysk. Population of the city is about 254,469
